Day 26

The Table Campaign, 35 Day Devotional

Lynn Dugan, Parkview Collective Team Member

Read Luke 5:1-11.

This section of Luke recounts Simon/Peter’s commitment to follow Jesus. It started with a call to ‘let down the nets’. I clearly remember God’s call to let down my own net. My ‘net’ was a career I had worked hard at building, but the travel and responsibility began to increase and the same was true for my spouse. We had two young children, and struggled to balance work and home life.

One morning, God stirred my soul with Philippians 1:6—“He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it”.

I understood in that moment I should not be afraid to leave my career. God would be faithful to complete the good work He began. I quit my job the very next day and have never looked back.

God’s faithfulness and provision these past 20 years are much more than two boats full of fish. I need to always remember whenever God calls me to trust Him, like Peter, I will say in my soul, “because you say so, I will!”

It is often difficult to trust God when we cannot see the future result. Has that limited your ability to commit?

Recall a time in your life when you experienced God’s provision and/or faithfulness from a specific decision you made to follow Jesus and commit to His call.

How will the prayer ‘because you say so, I will’ help you follow Jesus’ call on your life?
