Day 32

The Table Campaign, 35 Day Devotional

Jill Clouse, Parkview Volunteer

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

– Ephesians 6:16

Fear of heights, fear of spiders, fear of commitment; all common fears we hear about from others. The fear I struggled with for quite some time is a fear of change. Moving around a good deal as a kid made change a dirty word to me. I didn’t like the upheaval of routines, people, places and patterns. I wanted to commit to a place and just stay put. But that didn’t seem to happen. Changes were constant.

In order to feel at peace, I needed to combat my fear of change with faith. I needed to commit to a relationship with God, who is unchanging no matter what. While it hasn’t been easy, committing to a relationship with God has changed the way change impacts me. My faith serves as a shield when faced with fear. I can now look forward to change with excitement because of the ultimate commitment I have made to God.

What fears do you have that you could pray for God to eradicate and bring you peace?

How can you use faith as a shield?

How can committing to a relationship with God change you?

Dear Lord, you know every step we will take and change we will face. Help me to commit to be faithful to you during any change and trust that your good purpose will prevail. Amen.
