WEEK 1: FOLLOW GOD
Written by Michael Poorman, Children’s Pastor
BIBLE STORY: Genesis 12:1-9; Genesis 17:1-5, 15-17
BIG IDEA: God asks us to follow Him on an adventure so He can do great things through us.
“The Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’”
OVERVIEW: God called Abram to follow Him, and Abram faithfully followed God, even when he didn’t know all of the details of the future. God asks us to do things that are out of our comfort zone sometimes. That might mean sitting with someone at lunch who has no one to talk with, or it might mean choosing to forgive a sibling or a friend when they have wronged us. It could also mean stepping out of our comfort zone to invite someone to church or to tell them about Jesus.
KEY QUESTION: What is something you feel God might be asking you to follow Him in? Is He asking you to leave your comfort zone?
ACTIVITY: Play follow the leader. Then play Simon Says until there is a winner.
QUESTIONS: Was it always easy to follow the leader? Simon Says? What made it easier to follow? What made it harder? What did God say He would do if Abram followed Him?
